I hope you are all enjoying this wonderful summer weather we are having, getting out and about a little bit more... speaking of which, does your little one struggle with moving from one part of their day to the next?
It’s okay - most young children do!
Can I let you in on one of my favourite parenting hacks?
SING! You got it, that’s all, just sing! Songs and singing make things easier!
Children love music, they love songs, and they love you.
So we find (and the research shows it!) that it's much easier to get them to do what you need by asking them to do it with a song!
Wash your hands singing the ABC song Get them dressed singing the Open and Shut Them song
Take one of our family favourites from class (a Music Together® “Diaper Bag” song for example) and change the words to make them all about what you’re doing at the time.
Singing a song will help make the movements fun, and feel less stressful for both you and your child.
This makes the transition between activities seem less like something they have to do, and more like something they want to do with you!
This Spring semester we had fun with the chant Jack Be Nimble and, in my classes, we talked about how great this Nursery Rhyme is for adding to and changing language to suit what you and your little one are doing or learning about - at any time!
Next time you need to get those socks and shoes on to get out of the house ASAP, give this one a whirl:
(Your child's name) be Nimble (Your child's name) be quick (Your child's name) jumped over the candle stick (Your child's name) sock on And then your shoe Wow! So fast, look what you can do!
